• I have reviewed your changes to the Week 1 assignment; again, be careful that you give yourself enough time so that you are not submitting changes after the deadline.
• I noted that your usage of the summary field has improved; you have written comments in the summary field for 42% of the last 50 contributions you made. Remember, we are aiming for 100%.

Here is the feedback to your Week 1 journal assignment.

• Please be sure to submit your assignment on time. Your individual journal page was mostly there by the deadline, but subtantial editing ocurred after. Your shared journal was a few minutes late as well. You obviously put some care into making an online CV out of your page, but it probably also cost you by making you miss the deadline. Be cognizant of this in the future and make sure that you budget enough time to make the deadline.
• The grade for this assignment is posted on the MyLMUConnect Grade Center for this course. You will be able to earn back the points you missed on this assignment by completing the requested revisions below by the Week 3 journal assignment deadline of midnight on Tuesday, February 3 (Monday night/Tuesday morning).
  • Every time you make a change to a wiki page, please type something in the summary field (found above the "Save page" button). It appears that you did not do this at all for this assignment.
  • Please provide your LMU mail box number as part of your snail mail address.
  • For your research experience, are there any links you can provide to online abstracts or presentations?
  • For your publications, be in the habit of using a complete citation style (like the APA recommended for this class) that includes all co-authors, year, title, journal, volume, and page numbers. For papers that are not yet published, you can substitute the word submitted for the volume and page numbers.
  • Please make a link to an external web site.
  • The image that you uploaded to your wiki page was quite late after the assignment deadline.
  • Please upload a non-image file and link to it on your user page. Other students have uploaded resume's or scientific presentations they have done, for example.
  • You created a template, but did not actually invoke it on your user page using the following syntax {{William A. C. Gendron}}. This would then take everything that was on your template page and add it automatically to your user page. You could then remove the list of links that you put there manually. Every time you update the template, it will be automatically updated on every page in which the template is used.
  • You did not use and "third" level subheadings (three equals signs or more). Be sure to utilize this feature to organize content on your journal pages.
  • "Comment out" your wiki code--there were no comments other than what was already put there by OpenWetWare.
  • The formatting of your bulleted lists is a little off, stray bullet points appearing. Keep in mind that when creating a bulleted list, you cannot use empty lines in between a bullet point and it's sub-bullet or else it will make stray (extra) bullet points that look out of place. In general, check the formatting of your completed page to see if it looks right when you are done.
  • You can also remove the OpenWetWare automated text from the bottom of this talk page.

You asked What exciting things do you expect to come out of biomathematics in the coming decade?

I'm hoping we'll come up with math models of humans that will aid in all sorts of medical diagnostics, multi-scale models that go up from gene regulation to metabolism to organs to larger-scale physiological, models that can take into account all sorts of data to provide an accurate picture of health. I expect we'll continue to see molecular biology, computation, statistics, and mathematics converge: I'd love to see a complete model of yeast in terms of all 6000+ genes, signalling, metabolism, etc. I expect to see improved understanding of the processes of evolution. We've included some tips below to get you started.

Basic Wiki Instructions

• Don't be afraid to edit! As with all pages on the wiki, all versions are saved so its easy to undo. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email.

1. Start off by clicking the 'edit' button to the right of this section, or at the top of the page.
2. Now you should see the text of this section as text within an editor box. There are several buttons in the editor box, but don't worry about those for now. Just type something in the box, scroll down to the bottom, and hit the 'Preview' button.
3. You should see the web-page and text box views, but now with your edits! Don't forget to save your changes by clicking 'Save Page'!
4. Editing pages is as easy as that. There are of course many ways to format your text. The easiest way to learn is to find an OWW page with the formatting you like, click on the edit button again, and see for yourself how it was created in the text box. Here's an extensive list of formating examples. Or look at this OpenWetWare introductory tutorial.
5. When you are done, remove these instructions by clicking the edit button for this section again, erase everything you see in the text box and click 'Save Page'. (And remember you can always retrieve these by clicking on the 'history' tab at the top of this page.)

Note that these instructions apply to any page on OWW. Feel free to contribute to OWW by editing pages to add content, update them, or even correct mistakes. OWW relies on an active community to manage our growing resource of open access information, and we need your help!

Personal/Lab Info

We have gone ahead and filled in some information you provided us in your membership application on your User Page. Please take a moment to embellish this and tell the community a little more about you. Put links to your lab pages, your projects and your interests. If you run out of ideas, take a look at some of the other User pages. For example, check out User:Julius_B._Lucks, User:Jason_R._Kelly and User:Reshma_P._Shetty.

You'll also notice that we have put an 'image' placeholder at the top of your User Page. We encourage you to upload an image of yourself to give OWW a more personal feel. To upload an image, click on the Upload file link on the left-hand side (toolbar). Choose a file from your computer, and remember the file name. After you have uploaded the image, you should see it loaded on its own page. Go back to your User Page, click on edit, and replace 'OWWEmblem.png' with the name of your file that you have uploaded in the second line of this page.
