Steve Koch 23:16, 25 June 2009 (EDT): Worked with Linh for a couple hours. See his notes.

  • Beam seems to decrease in power as the unit warms up over 10-20 minutes.
  • Laser can be turned off by pushing the on-off switch (do not need to turn off key or interlock)

We took a couple pictures of the beam through an OD3 ND filter. But it was tough going, and our initial measurements indicated the beam getting smaller. Given our level of urgency to try unzipping very soon, we decided to abandon the characterization and to proceed with path design (Larry) and alignment.

I believe the adjustable beam expander is the one we want to use. I think for sure we can achieve something close to what we need.
