Objective

Description

Synthesizing PVOH

-0.5 g of polvinyl alcohol (MW:22000) was placed in to beaker 1. 3 ml of water was added to the beaker.(Solution 1)
-1 g of PVOH (MW:22000) was placed in to beaker 2. 6 ml of water was added to the beaker.(Solution 2)
-0.5 g of PVOH (MW:100000) was placed in to beaker 3. 5 ml of water was added to the beaker.(Solution 3)
-1g of PVOH (MW:100000) was placed. in to beaker 4. 7 ml of water was added to the beaker.(Solution 4)
-All four beakers were placed on to the hot plate for 15 minutes until the solutions become clear. Each solution was then poured in to separate teflon plates. Before letting it dry under the hood, acids drops are added to each solution.
  • 1 drop of phosphoric acid in to Solution 1.
  • 2 drops of phosphoric acid in to Solution 2.
  • 1 drop of HCl in to Solution 3.
  • 2 drops of HCl in to Solution 2.

Note: The PVOH in beaker2 3 and 4 did not fully dissolved. Some stayed at the bottom of the beaker.
