Objective

Prepare stock solutions to later make AuNP fibers with lysozymes.

Procedure

The protocol followed was the same as the one detailed in Dr. Hartings' labnotebook

The most important part of this lab was to make different volume solutions: 1mL and 5mL for which we followed the directions detailed below:

  1. 1 mL samples
    1. Volume of gold stock: 84.4 μL
    2. Volume of protein stock: 259 μL
    3. Volume of water: 656 μL
  2. 5 mL samples
    1. Volume of gold stock: 422 μL
    2. Volume of protein stock: 1,297 μL
    3. Volume of water: 3,281 μL

Matt Hartings What were the results of these syntheses?

Results

The resulting solutions did not produce gold fibers, they all produced nanoparticles: a homogenous, clear purple solution. This happened for both the 1mL and the 5mL solutions. Solutions will have to be remade with different concentrations in order to obtain fibers instead of nanoparticles.
