Objectives

  1. Prepare 10 solutions of varying ratios of BSA, gold, and magnetite to determine the concentrations necessary to prepared BSA fibers with gold and magnetite nanoparticles incorporated into the protein fibers.
  2. Prepare 3 standard BSA and gold nanoparticle protein fibers for later comparison.


BSA-AuNP Preparation


General Protocol:

  1. Prepare a stock solution of HAuCl4 in a 10mL volumetric flask using deionized H2O.
  2. Prepare a stock solution of BSA in a 10mL volumetric flask using deionized .
  3. Add 7.2mL deionized H2O to the 10mL volumetric flask.
  4. Transfer the solution into a test tube. Cap the test tube with aluminum foil
  5. Heat in oven at 80°C for 3hrs.
  6. Store the solution in a blue falcon tube.

Note:Use caution when removing the test tube from oven. The test tube will be hot.
