Procedures

Soaking Ribbons in Malachite Green

  • UV-vis time measurement at increments of each group's choosing
    • All times from start time
    1. 0 min
    2. 10 min
    3. 30 min
    4. 60 min
    5. 120 min
  • Weigh ribbons before and after
    • Initial mass: 0.4319 g
    • Final mass:
  • 20 ppm malachite green
    • Dilution: from 80 ppm, done by Eleni
    • Starting volume: 10 mL

X-ray Diffraction

  • To determine if clay is in fibers we made last Friday
  • Dry ribbons must be used
  • Sample Prep:
    • Place ribbons on pXRD disk
    • Press tape over film to hold in place, using a razor to cut off excess

DSC

  • Initial Masses
    • Tin and lid: 0.05233 g
    • Sample: 0.00334 g
