Procedures

New Exfoliated Clay Film Synthesis

  1. Determine how much 4% exfoliated NaMT needed for 10% clay solution
    • 0.11 g=(Mass of 4% NaMT soln needed)*0.04
    • Mass of 4% NaMT soln needed=2.75 g
  2. Add ~1g PVA
  3. Stir the solution with constant heating at 75C until the polymer is dissolved and the clay is dispersed (~15 minutes)
  4. Cool the solution to room temperature
  5. Add 0.5mL 0.8 wt% glutaraldehyde
  6. Stir for an additional 3 minutes to ensure homogeneity
  7. Pour solution into teflon dish to dry
