LMU Engineering Clean Water Project, Isla Espiritu Santo, El Salvador

Engineer Volunteer/Translator

  • Planned for this student-driven project 2 months prior to the week-long trip to assign responsibilities and ultimately, successfully install an Ultra-Violet filter for the only clinic on the island
  • Collaborated with 7 LMU student engineers in distributing over 60 table-top filters (1filter/household), teaching how to assemble and carry proper maintenance
  • Collected and analyzed filtered water from 30 table-top filters that were distributed the prior year
  • Organized a community meeting to discuss on the importance of clean water and share our findings in our bacteria testings

What is your favorite aspect of biology and why?

  • Biology explains the how and the why organism interact the way they do. It's complexity simply amazes me.

What is your favorite aspect of mathematics and why?

  • Mathematics, to me, has always been a universal language. Therefore, I have always enjoyed being able to manipulate numbers in order to solve a problem, kind of like solving a puzzle.
