I work in the Rich Lab in the University of Arizona. I learned about OpenWetWare Through my PI.

Current Projects
- Genes, isotopes, and ecosystem biogeochemistry: dissecting methane flux at the leading edge of global change. Department of Energy project led by Scott Saleska and Virginia Rich, with collaborators: Gene Tyson (University of Queensland), Patrick Crill (Stockholm University), Jeff Chanton (Florida State University), Changsheng Li and Steven Frolking (University of New Hampshire).
Broadly, I am interested in using metagenomics and metaproteomics to understand the role of microbial communities in biogeochemical cycling. More specifically, I am interested in investigating how microbial community composition and function scale to ecosystem biogeochemistry of CH4 and CO2, and how such scaling is affected by climate change. To accomplish this, I am coupling molecular microbial ecology to biogeochemistry and modeling, in order to link microbes, genes, transcripts and proteins with biogeochemical processes and ecosystem fluxes.
I am currently working on the optimization of metaproteomic methods for permafrost samples collected in Abisko, Sweden.
I am also looking into whether syntrophic acetate-oxidizing microbes contribute to patterns of methanogenesis observed with thawing permafrost in Stordalen Mire, Sweden.

Hobbies
- I love being outdoors, especially being on top of mountains. I enjoy hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing. Living in the desert is quite the perfect environment for such activities :)
- When I'm indoors, I enjoy playing classical and jazz piano, writing, and reading novels. Occasionally, I re-visit works by Immanuel Kant, David Hume, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Gottlob Frege, and Kurt Gödel.
- I also like fixing and riding bicycles.
- In the summer of 2011, I biked across the country from Huntington Beach, CA to Jacksonville, FL. I also volunteered in national parks, soup kitchens, and animal sanctuaries along the way :)
- In the summer of 2012, I through-hiked the Appalachian Trail (Springer Mt., Georgia --> Mt. Katahdin, Maine). My trail name was "Swivel".
