22,000 MW Films Synthesized to Date

1. PVOH (22,000MW): 2/28/13: flimsy and bendable and rigid. Chalky clear color. Didn’t shrink stayed same size before and after crosslinking.
2. PVOH (22,000MW): 2/28/13: chalky clear color. Very hard and brittle not bendable at all.
3. PVOH (22,000MW) +1ml of Glutaraldehyde+ 0.01% Quatenary Ammonium Salt: 2/28/13: flimsy and hard feels like paper bag. Least hard out of the quaternary Ammonium salt films. Chalky clear color. Significantly shrunk compared to the control.
4. PVOH (22,000MW) + 1ml of Glutaraldehyde +0.1% Quatenary Ammonium Salt: 2/28/13: still flimsy and hard with a paper bag texture. However, slightly harder with the increase in quaternary ammonium salt. Chalky clear color. Significantly shrun compared to the control.
5. PVOH (22,000MW) + 1ml of Glutaraldehyde +1.0% Quatenary Ammonium Salt: 2/28/13: starting to lose flimsyness, harder than 0.01% and 0.1%. Chalky clear color. Significantly shrunk compared to the control.
6. PVOH (22,000MW) + 1ml of glutaraldehyde + 8.89% Quatenary Ammonium Salt: 2/28/13: lost all flimysness, very hard compared to 0.01%, 0.1% and 1%. Chalky clear color. Significantly shrunk compared to the control. Strunk the more.

• The texture of the PVOH + quaternary ammonium + 1ml of glutaraldehyde hardened as the ratio of quarternary ammonium increased. This is contrary to our prediction. Thus, FTIR will be run to see if the films were properly labeled as well as if the quaternary ammonium was attached. In addition, shrinking increased with the increase of quaternary ammonium. According to ftir, they were labeled correctly??

1. PVOH (22,000MW) + 1ml of Glutaraldehyde + 0.01% Phenol: 2/11/13: hard bendable. Chalky clear color.
2. PVOH (22, 000 MW) + 1ml of Glutaraldehyde + 0.1% Phenol: 2/11/13: hard and more bendable. Chalky clear color.
3. PVOH (22,000 MW) + 1ml of Glutaraldehyde + 1% Phenol: 2/11/13: hard and even more bendable. Chalky clear color.
4. PVOH (22,000 MW) + 1ml of glutaraldhdye + 9% Phenol: 2/11/13: hard and even more bendable. Chalky clear color.

• FTIR Phenol has a lot of water compared to the quaternary has more water compared to the control as well.
• FTIR needs to be analyzed tomorrow very confused
