Film description from 7/8 Friday

  • 1% Phenol looked the best for the film with mw: 146,000-186,000
  • .1% and 10% crystals were forming either phenol or pvoh or both
  • concluded to high of a molecular weight the crystals were most likely pvoh recrystalizing
  • will still attempt to crosslink and dsc on the flat areas of the films
  • bubbles from the high molecular weight may have also lead to less mixing and crystal formation


Cross-linking PVOH (MW:146,000-186,000) Films With 0.7M HCl and neutralizing .6 Molar sodium bicarbonate

  • To high of a molecular weight will remake with with a lower molecular weight
  • MW: 22,000 will be used instead for this....higher molecular weight is to thick for this type of reaction with crosslinking with glutaraldehyde
