Hi there! My background is in electrical engineering and applied mathematics. I am from Mexico -Viva !México cabrones!-. I am an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Research and Advanced Studies Center of the National Polytechnic Institute (Cinvestav - IPN), also in Mexico. I got a PhD degree (Summa Cum Laude) on Mathematical Control Theory from Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France. The last fifteen year of my life I have been involved in:

  • Theoretical research concerning the solution of classical feedback control problems of systems described by linear ordinary differential equations (this paper Media:JCMG.pdf is a sample of the kind of things that I was doing): disturbance rejection, model matching, and input-output decoupling. Moreover, I worked (and I am still working) in the analysis and design of robust control systems, fault detection schemes, and evolutionary computing -to design evolutionary artificial systems-.
  • Applied research concerning control applications in robotics (mobile and manipulator robots) and earthquake engineering (computer-based detection of damaged elements of buildings affected by earthquakes).

Now days I am interested on the analysis and design of biological systems. More specifically, I want to understand how the robustness property which characterizes living beings arrives from the evolutionary process, and how this property conditions the network-based structure of the molecular system supporting life. Not an easy task, I know. The reason of my presence at HMS is to learn from biologist both the experimental and the conceptual tools involved in systems biology (I would appreciate any possible help, ... please). Well, I am really enjoying my stay here. In the short term I expect to be completely involved in biology research, and I think I will tackle some problems related to the uncovering of robustness as a conserved quantity (i.e. if a given function of biological system is robust against a particular perturbation, is the system fragile against a different perturbation?).
