John Hanks (an artistic interpretation)

I work as an engineer at National Instruments. I've joined OpenWetWare to learn what automation processes and instrumentation systems required for synthetic biology. In addition, I would like to learn the synthetic biology design process using BioBricks with the goal of leading a high school group in the future. An audacious goal would be to create design a biosensor platform for rare diseases.

Education

  • 1989, Biomedical Engineering, The University of Texas
  • 1986, Biomedical Engineering BS, Texas A&M

Research interests

  1. Instrumentation design for Synthetic Biology
  2. Biosensors for rare diseases
  3. Lasers, optics, signal processing, and image processing
