Objective

  • Synthesize sol-gel using Hg and BSA concentrations decreased by a factor of 10 (JCS 17).

Protocol

  • The typical procedure was followed using:
  1. 0.5 mL of a stock solution (.070 g of BSA in 5 mL) in 5 mL of water
  2. 0.5 mL of {5 mM Hg in 5 mL of water}
  3. 4 mL of {.0485 g of Sodium sulfide nonahydrate in 10 mL of water}.

Notes

  • Upon drying via rotovap, a white powder remained. This was notably different than the dark film that usually remains. The round-bottom was left in a drawer to dry further.
