Objective

  • Set up a new reaction

Description

  1. Oxidation of Styrene
    • 20mL of Toluene was placed in a 50mL round bottom flask with .6mg of Au fibers.
    • The solution was heated to 100°C in a mineral oil bath
    • Once heated, 1.38mL of Styrene was added and the round bottom was attached to a condenser.
    • The reaction was allowed to run for 15hrs

Data

  • 0.61mg of Au fibers

Notes

Toluene in an oil bath will boil quickly. If not watched the Toluene will completely boil out.
