Objective

  • Make new fibers
  • begin extracting old fibers
  • begin a new reaction

Description

  1. New Fibers
    • 40 solutions of 45:1 were made - 1.40mL of Lysozyme solution, 0.5mL of HAuCl4 solution, and 3.1mL H2O
  2. begin extracting old fibers
    • The fibers formation was incomplete. Only part of the gold formed fibers. We attempted to centrifuge the solutions but the fibers began to stick to the sides of the falcon tube and were not retrievable.
  3. Begin new reaction
    1. 0.6mg of fibers were placed in a 50mL round bottom flask
    2. 20mL of toluene was heated to 100°C in an oil bath
    3. 1.38mL of Styrene was added
    4. Reaction allowed to spin for 15 hours

Data

  • 0.028355g of Lysozyme in 100mL H2O
