George McArthur IV

Imagination is more important than knowledge.
Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.
- Einstein

My graduate research is being carried out in the laboratory of Stephen Fong at VCU in Richmond, VA and in the laboratory of Travis Bayer at Imperial College London in the UK, where I am a Whitaker International Fellow. I am working on developing tools for controlling gene expression in bacteria for metabolic engineering applications. In addition, I am actively developing synthetic biology educational material. Please feel free to email me. My research interests include:

  • Orthogonal gene expression
  • Artificial gene networks
  • Synthetic metagenomics
  • Genome organization, refactoring & design
  • Metabolic, organellar & enzyme engineering
  • Genome-scale, single-cell characterization
