Objective

To make one solution of AuNP/BSA and a solution of protein fibers.

Description

  1. Make 2 solutions of AuNP:
    • Solution 1 (Au/BSA mole ratio = 70)
      1. Combine 1 mL of 3.66 mM HAuCl4 and 3.02 mL of 0.0173 mM BSA in a test tube.
      2. Dilute to 10 mL with water.
      3. Place in oven at 80°C.
    • Solution 2 (Au/BSA mole ratio = 166)
      1. Combine 1 mL of 3.66 mM HAuCl4 and 1.27 mL of 0.0173 mM BSA in a test tube.
      2. Dilute to 10 mL with water.
      3. Place in oven at 80°C.
  2. Leave solutions in oven for 2.5 hr.

Data

  • Solution 1

  • Solution 2

Notes

Solution 1 turned purple, while solution 2 was clear with long purple protein fibers.
