Objective

  • Make 60% beads
  • Continue MG adsorbance data collection

Description

  • 60% clay beads:

1.25g PVA

(1.25g PVA/4)*6 = 1.875g

1.875g Bentonite * 97ml solution/3g bentonite = 60 mL bentonite solution

Concentration of HCl used until this time:

15mL*12.1M HCl = M2 * 55mL

M2= 3.3M

60.625ml * 3.3< = 12.1 M * V2

V2 = 16.5mL

60.625 mL bentonite solution 16.5 mL concentrated HCl 1.2507g PVOH

  • Create a solution of PVOH, bentonite solution and HCl.
  • Place this solution on a hot plate and heat/stir until everything has dissolved.
  • Add 5 mL of this solution to a 30 mL solution of ethyl acetate in a dropwise manner stirring at 380 rpm.
  • Add 0.5 mL of glutaraldehyde and stir at 260 rpm for 3 minutes.
  • After 7 minutes, add 7 mL of sodium bicarbonate and stir for 30 seconds.

Notes

New calibration curve found today. Started at 56 clean for activated carbon and 44 for 10% clay.
