A Small ErrorYesterday I created a small error in my model for FEMM, that I corrected today. The error was in how I set up the distance between the two rings on the Helmholtz coils. There is an ideal solution to the Helmholtz coil (link) that is represented by the two rings having a separation equal to the radius of one of the rings. In my mind, I imagined a 2:1 rectangle for the computer model. I messed up, and oriented the rectangle so that the long side was aligned with the axis of symmetry. The correct way to do this would be to turn it 90o, and place its center on the center of the model. I did this and recreated my FEMM models. |
