Tasks for March 4

Analysis of polymerization reaction

  • Upon observation, it can be seen that the contents of the bottom flask go from pink to burgundy red as the reaction proceeds
  • The contents of the round bottom flask were washed with distilled water and filtered under vacuum using a nylon membrane filter
    • The filtrate was saved for further investigation, as we are not sure what may be in it.
  • Next methanol was used to dissolve any remaining contents of the bottle
    • Some of the particles retained in the filter paper dissolved in this step.
    • Contents saved for further study
