I did use a thermometer and did keep it constant at 45 degrees C before adding the gelatin. The main problem was that the gelatin was added all at once and it clumped and stuck to the bottom. Since it didn't dissolve properly it just cooked on the bottom. I repeated it at 40 degrees and it dissolved fine once I added the gelatin slowly.

This is not how I interpret your entry in the lab notebook. You should be able to control the temperature without the need of putting paper below the beaker. That is not standard procedure. --MF Kubke 01:39, 17 January 2011 (EST)
