Bio
I went to high school in Roxbuy, NJ.  After throwing away a promising career in show choir, I went to UC Berkeley to pursue a degree in bioengineering.  I began working for Adam Arkin where I learned to program and became very interested in how networks of noisy chemical systems can undergo robust processes such as development.  My last two years in the lab, I worked on constructing models for how simple rules could govern Myxococcus xanthus pattern formation and development (In collaboration with Prof. Dale Kaiser and Roy Welch).

I came to MIT as a graduate student in biological engineering. In February, 2002, I joined Drew Endy's lab. I started work on understanding the development of a simple virus that infects bacteria, bacteriophage T7.  In May of 2005, I along with  members of the MIT Synthetic Biology Working Group (Jason Kelly, Ilya Sytchev, Reshma Shetty, Barry Canton, et al.) helped start OpenWetWare as a informational resource for biologists.  I am now a fifth year graduate student.

Bio

I am an Assistant Professor at UCLA in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. I was previously a member of the Advanced Technology Team in the Synthetic Biology Platform at the Wyss Institute. I was a postdoc in George Church's lab in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School and the Wyss Institute from 2009-2011. From 2007-2009, I was the first employee of a biofuel startup called Joule Unlimited. I got my ScD in Biological Engineering at MIT in Drew Endy's lab and worked on understanding the development of a simple virus (T7) that infects E. coli. As an undergraduate in Bioengineering at UC Berkeley, I worked with Adam Arkin, Dale Kaiser, and Roy Welch on modeling traveling wave formation in M. xanthus. I also co-founded OpenWetWare.
