We seek to design microbes that can use alternative energy sources such as electricity, fix carbon dioxide and produce a transportation compatible fuel. We have use a combination of gene synthesis and directed evolution to port novel carbon fixation pathways into microbes. In addition, we have generated microbes that can produce a range of fatty acids as a basis for novel fuel molecules.
