An MIT Ph.D. ... as a life coach?

During my time at MIT, I realized that one of the best ways that I could advance science and technology would be to help scientists and engineers live more fulfilling lives, 'themselves'. So, I became a Senior Life Coach, Career Coach, and Executive Coach, and President of a successful life coaching firm, where I helped thousands of clients make the changes they needed to live a great life. For many years, I coached individually and led workshops and courses at places like Stanford, MIT, Scripps Institute, and the National Cancer Institute.

I then combined my background in science, engineering, and life coaching to form Samantha Sutton, Ph.D. Life Solutions, offering a methodology that helps you boldly create a life you love.

I am committed to helping you:

I work with clients in New York City (NYC), Boston, Chicago (IL), San Francisco (SF), Los Angeles (LA), Toronto (Cananda), Massachusetts (MA), Pennsylvania (PA), Texas (TX), California (CA), Washington, DC, London, and all over the world.

I am particularly interested in working with Women in Science and Technology (STEM) to help my fellow women discover what they love to do, and believe that they can attain it. It is fine if a woman decides not to pursue a high-level position because that is not truly what she wants. It is not fine, however, if she really does want that position but thinks that she can't have it, and so convinces herself that she doesn't want it.

What is life coaching?

Life coaching is an action-oriented process by which your coach helps you set goals for your life, take action, and attain them. Just like a track coach helps you improve your race performance, a life coach helps you improve your life performance. Life coaching is a great choice for individuals who:

  • feel stuck in an area of their life and want to figure it out.
  • are doing well in life, and want to take their success to the next level.

My brand of life coaching combines:

  • insightful analysis into who you are, what you think and believe, what is important to you, and your background.
  • designing what you want your life to look like and building a roadmap to get there.
  • taking action with daily accountability and support. I am your biggest fan and supporter.

Education

How does my Ph.D. work fit into the field of Synthetic Biology?

Synthetic Biology is centered on the goal of engineering cells to perform functions of use to humans. Just as an electrical engineer engineers with silicon and copper to build electrical circuits, a synthetic biologist engineers with protein and DNA to build intracellular circuits. My particular focus is the design of synthetic protein-protein interaction networks within cells. For my Ph.D. work, I defined a new type of intracellular device, called Post-Translational Device, or PTD. To that end, I have developed modular protein components that can be added to proteins and cause them to interact in a phospho-mediated manner.

The constructs and strains I've built

If you're interested in any of the constructs or strains I've built during my graduate work, email myself or Drew Endy (endy at stanford dot edu). Here's a spreadsheet of all of my constructs and strains:
