Welcome to Renhao Li Lab We are interested in membrane proteins and receptors because they are one of the frontiers in protein research and because they are often drug targets that are closely associated with diseases. Our research centers around the following questions: How do membrane receptors transmit signals across the cell membrane? How do certain function or malfunction of membrane receptors lead to diseases? How are these functions regulated by intracellular and extracellular signals? How can we modulate membrane receptors to combat diseases? We focus on membrane receptors involved in cardiovascular and immune diseases. We take a multidisciplinary approach, using a wide array of techniques in molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, and bioengineering. Recent Updates 8/2013: To send Alex off to graduate school, the lab went to the Buford Dam Park for a picnic! 6/2013: Wei's 2nd paper in 2013, which demonstrates a sequential binding mechanism of moesin and calmodulin to L-selectin in membranes, was just accepted by J. Mol. Biol. Sungyun was the second author on the paper! Congrats, Wei and Sungyun! 6/2013: Anum joins the lab as a research specialist. Welcome, Anum! 5/2013: Wei's paper that address a recent controversy regarding the interaction of calmodulin with L-selectin was published by PLoS One. 9/2012: Xi's paper on GPV association with GPIb-IX was published by JTH and it made the cover! 7/2012: Renhao gave a talk on GPIb-IX at the 2012 Hemostasis Gordon Conference. 6/2012: The lab went bowling!
