Speed of light!

Experimentalists: us

Goal

All light travels at the same constant speed. We want to measure that speed by seeing how the time of travel varies over distance. Measuring this time is difficult since light moves 3/10 of a meter every nanosecond. Luckily! We have a very sensitive time-to-amplitude converter (TAC) that converts a time interval to a voltage (the voltage is proportional to the time interval).

Equipment

Here is our high voltage power supply for the PMT (left), our delay box (center), and the TAC (right).
