Kanamycin and Ampicillin Stock Solutions

  1. We use 1000X stock solutions of Kanamycin and Ampicillin.
  2. In a 5mL screw cap tube dissolve 50mg of Kanamycin or 100mg of ampicillin powder in 1mL of dH2O. Scale up as necessary.
  3. Working concentrations of Kanamycin and Ampicillin are 50μg/mL and 100μg/mL. Therefore you dilute the stock 1000X to get the working concentration. For example, if you have a 3mL solution of LB you add 3μL of stock solution (mg/mL) to the LB to get the final concentration (μg/mL). OR if you have 500mL of LB you add 500μL of stock antibiotic OR if you have 1000mL of LB you add 1000μL of stock antibiotic.
