Pecinka lab:Bjoern Pietzenuk
I work in the Group for Genetic and Epigenetic maintenance at Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research under the supervision of Ales Pecinka. My research is focused on the genetic and epigenetic maintenance of transposable elements in Arabidopsis species under natural and stress conditions. I am very interested in genome and epigenome evolution, stability and maintenance in photoautotroph organisms.

Research topics and interests
My main scientific interests spans from the origin of life to the evolution and natural variation of photoautotroph organisms. This led me to do my PhD about the control of the genome and epigenome under ambient and stressed conditions of more unknown organisms. With this, I was introduced into the role of transposable elements regarding genome maintenance and evolution.
Beside that, I am interested in muscular physiology and metabolism. This in case includes muscular and metabolic disease. I like to understand the function of steroids, supplements and drugs on muscular and metabolic function. Thereby, I wanna know how they can occur muscular and metabolic dysfunctions (most likely by organ insufficiency).

It is and was always a pleasure for me to teach young students. During my studies I have had numerous possibilities to do so and getting experience. In my opinion it is always necessary to do science and also teach new students in theory and practice.
