OpenWetWare:Funding
This page contains information regarding OWW's current funding situation along with possible future funding opportunities.
Topics to discuss
- There is going to be a meeting to discuss future funding possibilities of OpenWetWare.
- 501c3 registration
Current Funding
MIT/Microsoft icampus Grant -- One time, $16,000 dollars in direct funding.
OpenWetWare is also graciously hosted by CSBi with technical support from MIT's BioMicro Center.
See the proposal or the midterm review (in progress).
Future Funding Possibilities
It looks as though most funding agencies need a cover letter (1-2 pages) before the full application is sent. Also, many require being a 501(c)(3) organization. We can possibly go through MIT, but it may be better to start that registration.
NSF
A few open RFPs that might be of interest but I think the following is the best:
Biological Databases and Informatics (BD&I)
The due date is July 10th, so it's cutting it close. I think we should begin thinking about this immediately. Looking into preparing this, please help out here.
Google grants

Google allows applications for free AdSense advertising to recognized 501(c)(3) organization From Google:
The Google Grants program supports organizations sharing our philosophy of community service to help the world in areas such as science and technology, education, global public health, the environment, youth advocacy, and the arts.
Sun Microsystems Foundation

Perhaps we can get an inside track here with people we know at Sun? There are no real avenues for general applications
IBM

Once again, not really supportive of outside grants. But doesn't hurt to send in an application.
Sloan Foundation

MacArthur Foundation
They have a new Intellectual Property and the Public Domain Program that we might fit into.
Hewlett Foundation

They fund OCW. Not much of a research focus, but worth a try.
iBiblio
Possible donation of server-space?
- Sri Kosuri 02:57, 25 April 2006 (EDT): I've talked to the person in charge of Lyceum at SXSW, and he says we should have no problem getting OWW hosted. He also said they have serious hardware resources, and regularly get slashdotted.
NEB Foundation
up to $10,000 for grassroots projects in science education
