Filtering Organic Solvents

Methanol

  • Summary: yes, steri-flip filters can be used for MeOH
    • Evidence: The Millipore Steriflip (Catalogue Number : SCGP00525) filters have polyethersulfone filters. This Millipore page says chemical compatibility is "limited", but JM called customer service 2013/12/5 to clarify. They said PES is "generally recommended" for use. That is less recommended than "recommended" but should be fine, he said. This testing is based on soaking the filter for long periods of time, so filtering (short time scale) should be perfect. The mode of failure is more likely swelling than dissolving.
