The Koop lab studies molecular evolution, genetic variation, the immune system, genetic hotspots; and the impact of these on disease, cancer, immunity, and natural selection. Major current projects include: 1. Human and mouse genes of the immune system; 2. Molecular evolution using multi–gene families; 3. Salmon genome project (genome duplication, gene ID & expression and arrays).  These studies address broad evolutionary problems using a highly multidisciplinary approach.
