We work on hybridization barriers and the consequences of polyploidy for fitness and fertility. We use a combination of quantitative genetics, wet-lab genomics, and old-fashioned observation. The project includes the immediate consequences of interspecies and interploidy hybridization for seed development, the role of genomic divergence and gene dosage on the fitness of species hybrids.

Functional Genomics of Polyploidy and Hybridization

Welcome to the Dilkes Lab research at Purdue University. Brian Dilkes is part of a member of the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. Brian Dilkes' CV can be found in a Wiki format here at OWW.

The Dilkes lab uses the tools of genetics and genomics to investigate the consequences of genome dosage and genetic divergence on fitness and fertility. We are also design novel genetic methods that utilize ultrahigh-throughput DNA sequencing technologies for crop improvement and gene discovery.
