Welcome to the lab page of Tsun-Thai Chai. Chai is an assistant professor at the Department of Chemical Science, Faculty of Science, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Kampar Campus), Malaysia.
This lab page has been set up to disseminate news and publications arising from research carried out by Dr Chai's as well as his postgraduate and undergraduate students. The work of this small but growing group of dedicated young researchers focuses on the bioactive properties and biochemistry of local plant and animal species. Current research interests of the group include:
- Profiling of health-promoting phytochemical constituents of pteridophytes and freshwater macrophytes, with emphasis on species with medicinal values and on underexplored species.
- Evaluation of bioactive properties of pteridophytes and freshwater macrophytes, with emphasis on bioactivity of therapeutic relevance.
- Investigation of the cellular and biochemical mechanisms underlying the phytotoxicity of allelopathic plants.
- Bioactivity of proteins and peptides derived from marine organisms.
