To date, few of the major textbooks (see above) are made available as ebooks, possibly because of fear of illegal copying or lack of demand. However, textbooks from Garland Science (Alberts, Janeway,..) are now available in cooperation with vitalsource. Unfortunately, as I was told by the European representative in 1/2012, Garland does not sell the ebook outside the US/Ca.

Voet et al. have more recently published Fundamentals of Biochemistry, 2012 which appears to be a condensed and possibly updated version of their 2010 textbook. The books are 1200 and 1500 pages, respectively.

Principles of Biology

Over 50 undergraduate instructors, artists, researchers, and journalists are composing a new digitial only textbook called Principles of Biology. The project is a collaboration of the Nature Publishing Group who provide editorial experience and faculty members of the California State University who review the material and advise the project [3]. The book was announced to be ready for internal CSU review by September 2011 [4]. Engadget has some screenshots.
