Analysis

Heart rate (bpm):

Temperature ( degrees farenheit):

The p-value from the paired t test for the temperature is less than .05, which means there is significant difference between the spree temperature readings and the gold standard temperature readings. For heart rate, the p-value was greater than .05 which means there was no significant difference between the spree heart rate readings and the gold standard heart rate readings. The pearson r test displayed that the spree headband and the gold standard temperature readings had a r value was .19, which is below .9. This means that there was not much correlation between the spree head band and the gold standard temperature readings. The spree head band and the gold standard heart rate readings had a r value of .6, which is less than .9. The data for heart rate was still not correlated but it showed more correlation than temperature.

Summary/Discussion

There were some connectivity issues when trying to pair the device with the phone, the Spree Headband never shut off which could cause an increased depletion of battery, and depending on the shape of the user's head and hairstyle, could be uncomfortable for the wearer or inaccurate while recording data.

In order to solve these issues, the headband could connect by using a pairing button or pairing through the phone's bluetooth rather than just the Spree app. Also, by adding an on/off switch the Spree Headband will preserve battery and only function when the user asks it to. To fix the physical design, they could make it out of a material that is more accommodating and adjustable to head sizes and shapes. Also, ensuring the device that measures the data has a point of contact that is not interfered with by hair.

Target Population and Need

The target population for this device are professional persons which can include military, medical, of athlete persons. In the field, instead of having to carry around medical supplies, doctors and soldiers will have some of those supplies on them for quick use and analysis. Also, there is a need for a timely diagnosis and record of bodily information sent to hospitals at scenes of accidents. Athletes can wear this device and if anything happens on the field, information can be taken and sent to health services immediately. This device proves less invasive to patients that need not be disturbed because they are sleeping or sensitive to pain.

Device Design

This glove device is created with a flexible, thin material that is light, secure, and durable. They will be fingerless gloves for easier movement and usage. l have wi-fi signal in order to send information in the field to an overseer or medical professionals. Programs to analyze vital functions will be implanted into the device and will have a GPS device implanted into the fabrics to monitor location in say, a battle field or football stadium. It will be implanted as well with a rechargeable, long lasting battery with enough energy for a defibrillator. Lastly, it will have 2 mMB of memory storage to store information for later transfer to health facilities.
