Graph of the Average Temperature

For both the heart rate and the temperature, we used the T-Test since there were only two groups (the Gold standard and spree).

Pearson Value:

    -Heart Rate=0.71
    -Temperature=1.67

Analysis

When observing the results of the Spree in comparison to the Gold standard regarding measurements on heartbeats per minute the group found that the Spree was surprisingly accurate, within approximately three or four beats. The Spree would be able to give an indication of how the workout was affecting the subject based on heartbeat and would be an adequate substitute for monitoring heartbeats instead of having something strapped to ones finger throughout a workout.

An observation of the Spree in comparison to the Gold Standard in thermometers disclosed that the Spree was somewhat inaccurate, noticeable in an temperature difference of about four degrees. The difference itself does not sound like much but in regards to temperature is extremely unhealthy. Someone could be working out and overheating and their actual temperature could be 102.6 degrees but the spree would tell them 98.6 giving no indication that someone could be in danger of going to the hospital. The group would not recommend the use of the Spree to monitor temperature.

Summary/Discussion

The design flaws of headband that were noted were the look of the band, the marks left on the subjects head after use, the band itself was uncomfortable and tight, sweat accumulated under the band, there was difficulty syncing up the headband with android phones, the headband and phone would disconnect if there was too much distance in between them, and the only way the Spree was able to give body temperature was on a color scale labeled: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. Aesthetically the Spree Band should have been sleeker and less noticeable, throughout that experiment several people questioned the subject on what the device was and what its purpose was.

The general fit of the Spree Band was uncomfortable and left marks on the subjects forehead. To modify this, the group would add a removable padding to the headband to increase comfort and absorption of sweat. This padding would come in strips that could be re-used several times but then thrown away, and new strips would be sold in stores that one could then buy and use on the headband. The padding would help the issues of discomfort, sweat, and the marks all at once. The group also recommends and would modify the distance the phone could be away from the headband, since there was no conditions given that they had to be within a certain distance. But, the Spree kept disconnecting because it was too far away. The Spree also had difficulty connecting with android phones so maybe with more extensive programming the group could find a way to resolve this problem. Lastly, the general look of the band was unappealing so maybe making it thinner, and more like a headband, would change that. If the headband served the purpose of a actual headband and could hold hair back during a workout that would be very beneficial.

Target Population and Need

The target population for SafetyCANE is for elderly individuals and their loved ones who wish to assure stability and safety of their loved ones by using a cane that monitors stability. The cane would be very mobile and specifically targets the possibility that a fall could occur and a potentially bad situation of not being able to get up after hurting themselves. The need of the SafetyCANE stems from the huge amount of elderly individuals who accidentally fall, consequently harm themselves during the fall, and are unable to stand back up to receive medical attention.
