LAB 1 WRITE-UP

Independent and Dependent Variables

The independent variable would be the amount of Lipopolysaccharide given to each subject. The dependent variable is the levels of inflammotin (the protein) in each person.

Experimental Design

Groups
There will be a total of nine groups in the experiment. Each trial group will receive a different amount of Lipopolysaccharide. There first group will receive nine mg of Lipopolysaccharide, the second group will receive eight mg of Lipopolysaccharide, and so on until the 9th group receives only one mg of Lipopolysaccharide.

Age

The age range for our subjects will be anywhere from 65 years of age and above.

Number of subjects per group
There will be 10 people for each group, randomly selected based on general criteria.

Subject Selection

The appropriate test subjects for this experiment would be people who are sixty-five or older, and healthy.

Sources of Error and Bias

All subjects must be elderly, healthy, and should be tested on their inflammotin levels so their natural levels are the same and will not affect our measurements.
